An early prototype for learning C++ through a gamified campus environment

My role: UI/UX Lead & Researcher

About the project

Gator++ is in the early stages of development at the University of Florida. The working prototype brings together C++ concept questions, coding activities, progress information, and practice recommendations within an interactive campus environment. Design and development are ongoing.

UI/UX design and usability testing

I lead UI/UX design and contribute as a researcher. Our team has conducted usability testing, and work on the prototype is ongoing. The interface examples below document iterations on question practice, progress information, and choosing the next practice activity.

These screenshots document work in progress from the October 19–20, 2026 demo build. The interface continues to evolve, and question text varies between captures. Open any screenshot to inspect the interface at full size.

01 A focused question workspace

The updated question layout groups chapter selection, streak, credits, and progress in a compact header. A clear “Check answer” action gives the response workflow a defined next step. A skippable four-step tour introduces the question, answer choices, submission, and hints.

02 Progress without a permanent sidebar

Detailed progress moves into an expandable “Your progress” panel. A completion ring summarizes the requirements, while subtopic history and mastery review remain available when learners want more detail.

03 Feedback before the next recommendation

Checkpoint results appear before the recommended practice. Accuracy, hints, timing, and subtopic feedback sit together, and independent coding practice remains available alongside the recommendation.
